Artwork 16The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is an open-world action role-playing game developed by CD Projekt Red. Set in a dark fantasy world, the game follows Geralt of Rivia, a monster hunter searching for his adopted daughter, Ciri, while navigating political conflicts and supernatural threats. Gameplay features exploration, combat, character progression, and branching narratives shaped by player choices. Widely acclaimed for its writing, world-building, and depth, it is considered one of the most influential RPGs of its generation.
Budget of 306 million PLN (~US$81M) was officially reported by CD Projekt CEO Adam Kiciński at the H1 2015 briefing and covers BOTH development and marketing combined; CD Projekt did not publish a separate development-only figure, and USD conversions are approximate (they vary by source and date). Lifetime revenue of ~2.4 billion PLN (~US$642M, reported at the 60M-copy mark, Q1 2025) and all unit-sales milestones are officially reported by CD Projekt via financial reports: 4M in the first two weeks, 6M in six weeks, ~10M by 2016, 20M by 2019, 30M by 2021, 40M by 2022, 50M by 2023, 60M by 2025, and 65M+ by May 2026. The revenue and unit figures count the base game plus GOTY/Complete Edition and exclude the separately-counted Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine expansions.
