Cover ArtThe Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers is an action and adventure game based off of the first two movies of the popular Lord of the Rings series, The Fellowship of the Ring and The Two Towers. Players battle their way through some of the key events of these films as Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli.
No development budget was disclosed; the project ran roughly two and a half years with about 90 people. Sales were substantial: nearly four million units across all platforms, which was roughly four times what Vivendi's rival book-licensed Fellowship of the Ring managed. The PS2 version sold 1.5 million copies for $65 million in the US by July 2006, ranking 28th among all console games sold between January 2000 and July 2006; the Xbox version passed two million worldwide and reached Platinum Hits status. Both the PS2 and Xbox versions received ELSPA Double Platinum awards in the UK for over 600,000 copies each.
