Cover ArtJ.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-earth is a land of beauty, magic, and darkness. In The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, you follow Tolkien's narrative from the Shire to the halls of Moria, and finally to the banks of the River Anduin. Gameplay alternates between melee, archery, sorcery, and stealth as you control Frodo, Gandalf, and Aragorn. Join this band of heroes in their quest to destroy the One Ring, which contains all the power of the dark lord Sauron.
No development budget was disclosed. The PC version sold 230,000 copies in the US for $7.8 million in revenue by August 2006, ranking it the 91st best-selling US PC game of the decade to that point. Total sales across all platforms passed one million units. For context, EA's rival film-licensed The Two Towers sold roughly four million in the same window — a gap that contributed directly to Vivendi cancelling both planned sequels in 2003.
