Artwork 3Pokémon Go is an augmented reality mobile game that uses GPS to let players locate, capture, train, and battle Pokémon in real-world locations. Players explore their physical surroundings to find PokéStops for items, battle at Gyms for team control, participate in Raid Battles cooperatively, and compete in the Go Battle League's player-versus-player format. The game is free-to-play with in-app purchases and features Pokémon from across multiple generations of the franchise.
BUDGET: never disclosed by Niantic, Nintendo, The Pokemon Company or Scopely - documented-empty. What IS official is Niantic's funding: a $30M Series A in October 2015 from Google, Nintendo and The Pokemon Company ($20M upfront plus $10M milestone-conditioned), followed by $200M (2017), $245M (2019, at a $3.7B valuation) and $300M (2021, at $9B). REVENUE: the headline figure is a THIRD-PARTY ESTIMATE. Sensor Tower put lifetime player spending at $6.0B by June 2022; AppMagic reports ~$6.31B lifetime with $525.6M in 2025. Both trackers cover only App Store and Google Play in-app purchases, so they UNDERSTATE the true total - since the Pokemon GO Web Store launched in 2024 a meaningful share of spending bypasses them, which is why Scopely could report a 2025 "series high" while tracker data showed a decline. The two trackers also disagree on the peak year (SuperData: 2020 at $1.92B; AppMagic: 2021). OFFICIAL figures only: 500M+ downloads (The Pokemon Company); five Guinness World Records set in month one including $206.5M first-month revenue and $100M in 20 days; 100M+ unique players in 2024 and 20M weekly actives (Scopely). CAUTION: Scopely's June 2026 statement that revenue "exceeded $1 billion USD" in 2025 is a COMBINED figure for Pokemon GO, Pikmin Bloom and Monster Hunter Now together - several outlets misreported it as Pokemon GO alone. SALE: Scopely (Savvy Games Group / Saudi PIF) acquired Niantic's games division for $3.5 billion, announced 12 March 2025 and closed 29 May 2025. TIME TO BEAT: deliberately empty. Pokemon GO is an endless live-service game with no campaign, ending or credits roll - HowLongToBeat carries no meaningful completion time.
