Mojang announced 25 million players in April 2024, up from 15 million in February 2022; no unit-sales or revenue figures have ever been broken out by Microsoft. The game launched day one on Xbox Game Pass, which makes copy-sales comparisons misleading. One retail datapoint: the Hero Edition sold 11,450 physical copies on Nintendo Switch in its first week in Japan, the fourth-bestselling retail game that week. Sales figures for the six DLC packs and the Adventure Passes were never disclosed.
