Dustborn

Dustborn's public funding is unusually well documented. The Norwegian Film Institute awarded Red Thread Games five separate allocations totalling 13,708,000 NOK between February 2020 and November 2024 — three development grants (3.0M, 4.0M and 5.0M NOK) and two launch grants (1.6M and 108,000 NOK). The EU's Creative Europe MEDIA programme contributed €150,000 under its Video Games Development Support strand (ref 612346-CREA-1-2019-1-NO-MED-DEVVG), and Viken Filmsenter added 300,000 NOK. The remainder came privately from Red Thread Games and Quantic Dream and has never been quantified, so this is a partial figure, not a total budget. No revenue figure was published; director Ragnar Tørnquist said only that real sales "significantly exceeded those reported online" while still falling short of the studio's expectations. Third-party estimates range from 3,300 to 35,500 copies — a tenfold spread that disqualifies them as a basis.
