Artwork 2Crash Bandicoot: Warped is the third game in the Crash Bandicoot series and the first to feature Coco as a playable character. The player takes control of Crash and Coco Bandicoot, who must travel back and forward in time and gather 25 crystals before Uka Uka and Doctor Neo Cortex can do so. Much of the game takes place in the Time Twister which acts as the hub area of the game. The Time-Twister is split up into five chambers, each chamber has five buttons that open portals to different levels. The goal in each level is to find and obtain the crystal hidden in the level. Crash Bandicoot: Warped was lauded by critics in many areas, and the game has been considered one of the best video games of all time.
No development budget has been published for Warped (its predecessor Crash Bandicoot 2 cost a reported $2 million over 13 months, which gives a rough sense of scale but is not this game's figure). Sales: 2.9 million copies shipped to retailers worldwide by February 1999, with NPD sell-through of 862,506 in North America by the end of that January; by 2002 the game had sold over 5.7 million units worldwide, making it the thirteenth best-selling PlayStation title of all time. In Japan it outsold both predecessors and became the first non-Japanese PlayStation game to pass 1 million copies there. Estimated gross ~$285M (5.7M x ~$49.99, the typical PlayStation launch price of the period — the game predates Steam so no SteamDB price history exists); excludes discounts, returns, Greatest Hits budget re-releases and retail margin, and is not an official figure.
